Biography

Artist John Yeackle was born in Birmingham, Alabama.  Soon his family moved to Seminole County in Central Florida and established a fishing camp on the wild Wekiva River.  It was there that John developed a love of the wilderness.  The beauty of the area combined with his Dutch, German, and Native American heritage influenced John’s love for the environment.  This love paved the way for John’s artistic career.  His mentors Winslow Homer, Russell Flynt, and Edward J. Fitzgerald have also influenced John’s work.  John has gone on to master the medium of transparent watercolor and win success on a national level.

John’s down to earth nature and appreciation for the world around him are reflected in his painting.  Such appreciation has attracted national conservation groups such as Ducks Unlimited, Wild Turkey Federation, Quail Unlimited, Safari Club International, and Nature’s Conservancy to John’s work.  These organizations have used his sporting and wildlife scenes to represent their efforts.

His paintings have also been feature in US Art, Sporting Classics, Gray’s Sporting Journal, Waterfowl & Wetlands, Wildlife Art News, Florida Wildlife, Florida Audubon, and the American Veterinarian Medical Association Journal.  His paintings have been exhibited at wildlife shows, such as Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, Waterfowl Festival, Ward Foundation National Wildlife Art Show, Oklahoma Wildlife Arts, Florida Wildlife Exposition and many other art festivals throughout the Eastern and Midwestern United States.

John’s paintings have been awarded over 300 times in juried competitions.  He has also published 28 limited edition prints.  He is especially known for his portrayal of the American Wild Turkey.  This portrayal has created a demand for his work, and it is rare to see an original watercolor of John’s that isn’t already owned.  Still his work can be found in galleries throughout the Southeastern United States, including McBride Gallery in Annapolis, Maryland, Ocmulgee Arts in Macon, Georgia, Country Pride in Franklin, North Carolina, Fast Frame, Auburn, Alabama, Fredlund Art Gallery in Winter Park, Florida and Mosquito Creek Outdoors, Apopka, FL
